Paula Fraile (Guadalajara, Spain, 1982) is a Spanish painter and muralist currently based in Leipzig, Germany, where she works from her studio at Westwerk. With a background in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid and further studies at Karel de Grote Hogeschool (Sint Lucas, Antwerp), her career is rooted in the exploration of color and its transformative power. Paula creates sensory and emotive dimensions that invite viewers to immerse themselves in introspective and spiritual landscapes. Her practice incorporates collage and drawing as fields of intuitive experimentation, serving as a creative impulse to express deeply autobiographical narratives. Painting is an inseparable companion—an extension of her being that ventures toward new artistic horizons.
She studied Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid and expanded her training through an Erasmus program at Karel de Grote Hogeschool (Sint Lucas, Antwerp). Additionally, she specialized in graphic arts and printmaking at Escuela de Arte 10 in Madrid, receiving scholarships for lithography studies at Frans Masereel Centrum (Belgium) and Fundación Il Bisonte (Italy).
Over the past decade, Paula has completed more than 15 large-scale murals in collaboration with festivals and institutions such as Poolbar, Teufelsberg Berlin, Wittenberge City Council, Azuqueca de Henares City Council, Xunta de Galicia, ArtAlberic Intramurs, Encuentro Paredes, Artsur, and Artnit. Her work has been exhibited in Spain, Germany, and beyond, in solo and group shows at spaces like Neu Deli Kunstraum, Potemka Gallery, Halle 14 UG, Spinnerei Leipzig, and Palexco (A Coruña).
Her interest in the intersection between painting and performance has led her to collaborate in stage design and scenic painting. She has painted backdrops for director Marta Pazos in productions like El Público (Teatro Solís, Montevideo, Teatre Lliure, Barcelona) and Soda (Festival 10 Sentidos, Valencia), as well as stage designs for musicians like JPattersson.
Paula has participated in international residencies, including Bonfire online Air, Pilotenkueche (Germany), Litografía Viña (Spain), and Uttarayan Art Foundation (India). She has also received grants and support from institutions such as the Arts Council of Saxony (KdFS).
Among her recent projects, LAND TO SCAPE was her first solo exhibition in Germany, a four-stage exploration of pictorial transformation where ultraviolet light revealed hidden dimensions of the night. This exhibition reflected her ongoing research into the relationship between space, light, and perception.
